Receiving Thanksgiving

Now that we are well on our way to a celebration of Thanksgiving, let’s take another minute to reflect on this important holiday.  There are only a few other countries that have a holiday similar to American Thanksgiving.  It was a time that the pilgrims set aside to give thanks for the good harvest, the friendship with the American native Indians, and the bounty of God Almighty.  America has become a nation that is divided in so many ways.

This nation was founded on religious liberties that are being threatened as I am writing this article.  Tolerance of Christians has been under attack for some time and we who name the name of Jesus Christ on our lives are commanded to pray for our country and our leaders in II Chronicles 7:14

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

The responsibility for healing in America falls not in Washington, or the political arena, but to those of us who have been born again by the blood of Jesus Christ and claim Him as Lord and Savior.  Will you join with me in prayer during this time of Thanksgiving for our country and its leadership?

God wants us to look at others through His eyes, to see their lives, their needs and to consider that He died for them as well as us.  We will never look in the eyes of another person that Jesus Christ didn’t give His life to save.  Race, religion, ethnicity, education, finances, neighborhoods, houses, clothes or occupations do not define the value of another person.

We can break down many barriers that exist in our world today with kindness, respect, love and thanksgiving.  Look around and find someone that possibly needs a blessing.  It may be a meal to share, food, a bag of hygiene items, a kind word, a caring deed, a touch, a smile or anything else that you might have the opportunity to do.  Ladies, it IS an opportunity to reach out to others in the name of Jesus.  He gave us so many examples in His Word of different ways to reach out in kindness and help others.

I Timothy 4:4

For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

Let’s not allow this Thanksgiving holiday to pass without sharing the love of Christ with another.  Remember that every creature of God is good.  We are all His creation.

Praying for a wonderful Thanksgiving Season for you and your family, Margie
