Prayer is…promise

Our prayer life is built on promises……God’s promises to us and our promises to Him.  He shows us all through His Word that He is a promise keeper.  Galatians 3:14

That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Jesus Christ, the promise of God dwells in the hearts and lives of believers as the Holy Spirit.  Without the promise of God in our lives, we wouldn’t even be able to pray to the Father.  God called us by His promise to us.  Acts 2:39

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

We often make promises to God when we pray although we don’t always keep them.  We promise things like we will be more faithful in our bible study, our prayer life, our attitude toward others, our forgiving spirit and the list goes on and on.  We want to keep our promises, but then life gets in the way and before we know it, we have broken them.  God always keeps his promises to us.  We can pray God’s promises on our lives:

He will never leave us or forsake us

He has conquered sin, Hell and the grave

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us

He will meet all our needs according to His riches in glory

He will be our strength in time of trouble

He will come back and claim his children

These are just a few of the promises that God has given us in His Word.  We are commanded to study His Word so that we will know His promises to us.  One of my favorite promises from God is found in Mark 11:24

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

We need to pray God’s promises over our lives daily and believe that they are true because they really are!  His promises provided us with his strength and power for each new day.
