Hi everyone! We are really so glad it’s finally Fall in the South! Loving some cooler weather although we thought summer would ever end. We are getting ready for the Holidays that will soon be full force upon us.
Greetings again from the Deep South! Our temperatures are finally cooling down some and we have had the rain that we so desperately needed. It is college/high school football season here which is greatly debated. People including me get so excited over a football game on Saturday afternoons. We wear our shirts, colors and everything else that represents our teams proudly, even if they lose. We are die-hard football fans in Alabama.
What does my football team have to do with my Spiritual growth you might ask? Well, our Spiritual barometer can be measured against what is important to us. If my favorite football team has more of my attention and allegiance than my Heavenly Father, something is gravely wrong with my Spiritual status. If I am more anxious to talk about my football team than Jesus Christ to my friends and family, then something is gravely wrong with my Spiritual state of mind. Can you see where I am going with this? Nothing and I mean absolutely NOTHING should be more important to us than our relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Not our families, our friends, our houses, our wealth, our education, or any other tangible thing (something that we can touch).
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
He is a jealous God and He wants to have first place in our lives. What does it take to give Him the first fruits of our lives? Spiritual growth (spending time with Him, getting closer to Him). How does any relationship grow stronger? By spending time getting to know each other. Reading your Bible and studying what you read is the best way to know God more. Praying and listening to His voice on your life is another one. We often pray, asking Him for things that we want, but don’t stop to listen to Him talk back to us! We wouldn’t be friends with someone for very long if they did all the talking and never allowed us to speak.
The holidays are right around the corner, so as we approach the rest of 2019, let us all challenge ourselves to spend more time with God each day than the day before. To desire to love Him more and learn more about Him. He is the reason for all the celebration that is ahead of us this year. We give thanks; for our country, our freedom. our blessings, our food, our families, our health, and so much more. Then we follow with Christmas where we will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the only Son of God who made Himself lower than the angels to come to earth and sacrifice His life so that we can be in a right relationship with the Heavenly Father.
He is so very worthy of our love, our worship, our time, and our fellowship. He is the very reason that each of us exists today. We owe Him everything because He gave us so much. Praying that you will grow Spiritually each month as we approach 2019.
Love y’all, Margie
Hello there! So happy to have you back with us. We love everyone who reads and responds to our messages. Now that summer has passed and fall is upon us, we can settle down from summer vacations, pools, outings and get back to what we do best……Serving others!
Needs around us unfortunately don’t take a vacation and as many as we try to meet, there are far more that still need to be met. We always go back to the question, yes, but what can one person do? Have you ever heard of the Starfish parable? Well, here it is:
One day, an old man was walking along a beach that was littered with thousands of starfish that had been washed ashore by the high tide. As he walked, he came upon a young boy who was eagerly throwing the starfish back into the ocean, one by one. Puzzled, the man looked at the boy and asked what he was doing. Without looking up from his task, the boy simply replied, “I’m saving these starfish, Sir”. The old man chuckled aloud, “Son, there are thousands of starfish and only one of you. What difference can you make?” The boy picked up a starfish, gently tossed it into the water and turning to the man, said, “I made a difference to that one!”
We need to make a difference to the ones that we can reach. God will send someone else to help the others and that’s the basic principle of WIGS. Women working together in small groups to help others. The synergy (benefit of being together) of two people working together do the work of three! It’s true. It really works. I you do one service each month and get some of your friends to do the same thing, before you know it, you will be making a difference in your corner of the world.
There are so many things that need to be done. Hospitals and nursing homes that need to be visited, shut-ins that need visits or help with groceries or medicines, schools that need volunteers, homeless people who need basic toiletries, on and on and on. I could never run out of things that need to be done. Take a tablet and pencil and just begin to write down ideas of services that you know can be done close to you. You will be so surprised when you look at your list and see how great the needs are around you.
Send us ideas of projects that you plan to do or that you have already done, and we can share them on this page with others. Helping others see the love of Jesus Christ is our purpose. The reason that we were created and are still here. We need to work while we have time and opportunity.
We never know when it might be our turn to need help and how much it would mean to us for someone to stop from their busy schedule and help us.
Please join with us, grab some friends and get them to work with you and get busy doing something! You never know how far God will take you until you step out in faith.
We will be praying for you as you prepare to step out on the road to greater service.
Hello once again from sunny Alabama.
It is October but our temperatures are still in the eighties and above! It should start cooling off soon though and then winter. Time is fleeting by us, ladies and if we are going to be our best for the Lord, we need to commit to get back into the Word of God every day.
The best time is first thing in the morning because once the day starts and plays out, it often gets overcome by circumstances (OBC). That’s an old acronym that I still use that came from working for the Department of Defense. Things happen that are unexpected, and we find ourselves at the end of the day, drained and exhausted without having spent time with God.
There are numerous Bible studies online, plus so many other resources right at your fingertips. One of my favorite things to do is take a book of the Bible and go through it chapter by chapter, verse by verse and make notes. That has been one of the best tools for me to use in my personal Bible study.
The movie that just premiered, Overcomer, uses that method to teach a new believer how many good things happened to her from the book of Ephesians. She was instructed to read that book and write down everything that she had been given along with her salvation. It was so powerful, and it still is the same book with the same power for each of us, young or old, new Christian or seasoned.
It takes a commitment from us to purposefully spend time in the Word of God. It takes discipline and a lot of self-control (pretty much the same thing) that I struggle with myself. I want to, mean to, plan to, and need to and before I know it, my day has slipped away without me making time for Him
That’s one of the reasons that I am writing about this, because I know beyond a doubt that the Wicked One wants me to stay out of God’s Word and when I miss a day, He gets a victory and I disappoint my Heavenly Father. I don’t want to do that ladies and I’m sure you don’t either.
Will you make a commitment with me to do whatever it takes, move our schedules around, unplug from electronics, television, activities and events in order to make our time with Him a priority and not an option.
Our families watch us to see what our priorities are and often mirror them in their own lives. That’s why its so important to make the things of God a high priority in our lives and before our families. If church attendance is optional to us, then it probably won’t be a priority to them. The same goes for our prayer life and our Bible study. We are being watched and what we do ultimately affects those around us in ways that we don’t even see.
Jesus Christ made us a priority, a high priority) when He went to the cross of Calvary for our sins (yours and mine). Can we do anything less than that for Him?
We are praying each day for all of you that share this ministry with us. We would love to hear from you with your prayer needs, ministry needs or any other reason. We are here to help each of you be your very best for the Master. We will talk again soon. Until then, please know that you are loved of God and this ministry called WIGS. Margie
Hello everyone! Fall is now if full swing here in Alabama. We are still having hot days, beaches, homemade ice cream, watermelon and swimming fun. I love it. I have always loved spring and summer in that order, and this year fall has been just another summer! BUT, I love God and my family more!
Life is all about priorities and the older I get, the more I realize that. There are a lot of things that I can’t do anymore that I once did, and my life has taken on a reprioritization these last few years. I must put the important things first or they will not get done. Have you heard about the woman who began her day with a list of things to do and as she began to do them, she got distracted by another task that she wanted to do? By the end of the day, she was exhausted and had not completed anything! I find myself there a lot, so I have committed to do the important things and complete them before I become distracted with minutia (unimportant stuff).
God gave me the gift of leadership and He probably did you or you wouldn’t be reading this blog. Leadership is taking the initiative to encourage others to accomplish something.
Examples are scout leaders, military leaders, team leaders and spiritual leaders. If you have been given a spiritual gift of leadership, you will want to lead a group to do something;, maybe a women’s ministry, a children’s ministry, a senior citizens ministry, a bible study ministry or any other type of ministry that you can think of.
WIGS is here to help you with whatever ministry you choose to serve in. We have tools that can help you start a group, find funding for your group, grow your group or anything else that you need us to do to help with.
Please tell us what you want to do and what you need. We would love to be a part of your ministry and help others grow in the service and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Simply reply to our website or our Facebook page and we will respond quickly to help you get started.
We are hoping to have an online class soon to explain what WIGS is and what we do to help others. That is our founding goal, to help other women become the best that they can be doing whatever God has called them to do. There is even a book on the way to accompany the course with tips and suggestions to help more.
We are so excited that you may become a part of this wonderful ministry and work hand in hand with us to serve God while serving others. Together, we can accomplish so much more than any of us can by ourselves.
Won’t you contact us and take the next step of commitment to grow your ministry into the plan that God has for you. You never know how far God will take you until you step out in faith.
We will be praying for you as you prepare to join us on this wonderful adventure.
Greetings from Alabama once again. I’m not sure where you are, but Alabama is hot and another hurricane always seems to be coming to visit us.
We are so happy that you have joined us and are reading ideas that may help all of us to grow spiritually.
God doesn’t take vacations and although He wants us to enjoy our time here on earth, He wants us to stay close to him while we do it. I know that I have been guilty of slacking with my prayer time and Bible study when I’m traveling on vacation and I guess it probable happens to all of us some. So, how do we maintain that enthusiasm, that desire to spend so much time with our heavenly Father as we can ALL the time?
Even the Apostle Paul talked about it in II Thessalonians 3:13
All of us can become weary in our Spiritual life from time to time. If it can happen to Paul, then I don’t feel so badly when it happens to me. The solution is not to stay there when it does happen. First, we need to :
Acknowledge it. It’s like any bad habit that we get in to. It begins a little at a time and gradually slips until we find ourselves there. I don’t gain ten pounds overnight but all of a sudden, I am ten pounds overweight! Same thing.
Repent from it. Confess it. I am so sorry that I have drifted away from you Lod Jesus. I have let other things and people get in the way of my relationship with you and I am so sorry.
Fix it. Now that’s the hard part. It is never easy to change our habits. …any of our habits, but God in His grace will help us get back into a right relationship with Him if we are sincere.
Once again, King David cried out to the Lord in Psalm 51:12
God will restore unto each of us the joy of HIS salvation. Notice that it is His salvation that our joy comes from. Nothing on our part but to accept it from Him. His joy, His love, His Salvation. When we begin to think about how much He loves and cares for His own, then we are on the road to recovery.
We are praying for each of you daily. Please be in touch with prayer requests and thoughts that you want to share.
Until next month, In His Love, Margie
Hi there! So happy that you are back with us. We are already through summer and in fact, back-to school supplies and clothes are already being replaced with winter clothes in the stores. I cannot believe how quickly time is passing. This is a beautiful time of changing seasons, back to school, and sports (especially here in Alabama!).
Our Heavenly Father wants us to enjoy this one and only life that He has given us but not to the exclusion of our ministry to others. Each day presents a new opportunity to help someone. We cannot allow ourselves to become so self-absorbed with our activities that we neglect the wants and needs of others.
We gave you a lot of service project ideas for summer last month, so this month, I want to try to show you something different. I want you to exercise your imagination for a few minutes. I want you to imagine being any or all of the list below:
Ladies, they are all around us. You may be one of them. Allow yourself to feel the pain and suffering that is going on everywhere in this world. Probably in your neighborhood, your church, your city and possibly in your home. Imagine what someone could do that would help make your situation even a small bit better. Feel their pain, their suffering and rejection.
Allow yourself to experience in your mind the grief, the agony of people who are all around you. They are desperate, without any hope at all unless someone reaches out to them. We all see the starving children from other countries on our televisions and iPhones and feel badly for them, but ladies, there are starving children right here around us who, if they didn’t get a meal at school, would have anything to eat all day!
We cannot forget them for the fall because some of them may not be here in the winter.
Please, just do your part. Do something to help someone this month of October. I promise that you will never regret a single thing that you do to help another in need.
Love y’all, Margie
Hi once again. I hope that you are ready for summer because it is already here! We have had temperatures up in the ninety’s here in Alabama already and it isn’t our “hot” season yet!!
We have been talking about Faith. Family and Friends for the past three months. Those are the first three “F” words in my Legacy. My book, Mama’s Legacy, has finally been published and is available on Amazon.Com.
Hello everyone! Summer has come to Alabama and it’s only June! We have been sweltering already and the hot part is yet to come!
We have been talking about the Seven “F” words to my Legacy for the past three months. We looked at Faith, Family and Friends. Now “Mama’s Legacy” has been published and you can read about the other four “F” words (Fitness, Finances, Fun, and Future) in the book because we are changing topics this month.
Greetings from Alabama! May is here and school will soon be out for the summer. Hard to believe that 2019 is almost halfway over. Time is marching on quickly and I pray that you are keeping up with your commitment for personal Spiritual Growth this year. Reading the Word of God, praying, meditating, listening and actively seeking Him and ways that we can all use in our walk with Him, but this month, I would like to use another “F” word and that’s Friends
